Things to Do in Romania

If you are renting a car and staying 1-2 days longer

Visit Rimetea (5 km from the venue, ~60 km from Cluj)

A charming village and perfect for a half-day or day trip. You can also hike up Piatra Secuiului for amazing views of the surrounding landscape.

Visit Turda Salt Mine (Salina Turda) (~40 km from the venue, on the way to Cluj)

One of the most impressive salt mines in Europe, great for a day trip and especially fun to visit with children.

Visit Cluj-Napoca (~70 km from the venue)

Romania’s second-largest city. We recommend spending 1–2 days here if you have time, especially if you arrive earlier or leave later than the wedding weekend.

If you are planning a longer trip in Romania

If you are staying for around a week and renting a car, here are two suggested routes to explore Transylvania:

Itinerary 1 (Westward route)

From the wedding venue, you can drive to Alba Iulia (~50 km), where you can spend half a day or a full day exploring the fortress city.

From there, continue to Corvin Castle (~80 km), one of the most impressive castles in Romania.

Next, drive to Timișoara (~170 km), our hometown, where we recommend spending 1–2 days. From here, you can either fly out or continue to Oradea (~170 km) and then return to Cluj (~170 km).

Itinerary 2 (Classic Transylvania loop)

After the wedding, drive to Alba Iulia (~50 km) for a short visit, then continue to Sibiu (~80 km), where 1–2 days is ideal.

From Sibiu, head to Brașov (~150 km). You can also visit Bran Castle (Dracula’s Castle) from here.

Continue to Sighișoara (~120 km), a beautifully preserved medieval town, and then to Târgu Mureș (~55 km), before returning to Cluj (~110 km).

If you are flying to/back from Bucharest - Cluj to Bucharest itinerary

If you are flying into Cluj and out of Bucharest (or vice versa), a great route is:

From the venue, drive to Sibiu (~130 km), then continue to Brașov (~150 km). Both cities are worth 1–2 days each, especially if you also plan to visit Bran Castle nearby.

From Brașov, continue to Peleș Castle (~50 km, allow a few hours for the visit), and then drive to Bucharest (~140 km). We recommend spending around 2 days in the capital.

Please note that the road between Brașov and Bucharest can be quite busy, especially on weekends, as it is a popular mountain route.

A note on exploring Romania

Romania is a large and diverse country, with beautiful mountains, historic towns, traditional villages, and the Black Sea coast.

These itineraries focus mainly on Transylvania and the central region, but other areas worth exploring include:

- Northern Romania (traditional villages and wooden churches)

- The Danube region in the south-west

- The Black Sea coast and the Danube Delta in the east

If you are interested in any of these regions, or would like a more personalised itinerary (mountains, seaside, or city-focused), feel free to reach out — we would be very happy to help 😊

If you are not planning to rent a car, there is also public transport available, and we are happy to help you plan your journey.
